USSD Help

Use Africnam without internet

Any basic phone works. Follow these steps before dialing your operator's USSD code.

USSD
*384*1234#

The exact short code is issued by your mobile operator (MTN, Orange, Airtel, Moov, Vodacom, Safaricom…). It will be sent by SMS after enrolment.

  1. 1. Enrol your phone number

Your employer or cooperative adds your mobile number to the Africnam roster. You receive a welcome SMS with your operator's USSD short code.

  2. 2. Dial the short code

Pick up any phone (no smartphone needed). Dial the short code, press Call. The Africnam menu appears in 1–2 seconds.

  3. 3. Choose an action

1 — Check wallet balance (USD). 2 — Generate a 6-digit clinic token (valid 10 min). 3 — Talk to Dr. Ada, triage nurse.

  4. 4. At the clinic

Give the 6-digit token to the receptionist. The clinic scans it, the visit is charged against the 90% escrow pool. No cash changes hands.

  5. 5. Privacy & caps

Only the anonymous token leaves your phone — never your name or diagnosis. Annual caps ($50 micro / $150 corporate) are enforced automatically.

Frequently asked & common errors

«ERR 01 — Number not enrolled» — what should I do?

Your MSISDN is not in the Africnam roster yet. Contact your employer's HR or your cooperative admin so they add your number in the Corporate portal → Employees → Add. Enrolment takes < 60 s and you receive an SMS confirmation with your operator's short code.

Dial: *384*1234#
> ERR 01 — Number not enrolled
> Please contact your employer.
Action: HR adds +221 77 123 45 67 → SMS: “Welcome to Africnam. Dial *384*1234#”. Redial → menu appears.
«ERR 02 — Insufficient balance» when generating a token

The 90% escrow pool attached to your plan is empty or your annual cap ($50 micro / $150 corporate) is reached. Check option 1 (balance) first. If the pool is empty, your employer must top-up via Mobile Money on the Corporate portal. If the cap is reached, unused credits will roll over next cycle.

Dial: *384*1234#
> 1 (Balance)
> Wallet: $0.00 / Cap used: $50 of $50
> ERR 02 — Insufficient balance
Action: Employer funds pool → retry option 2 to generate token.
«ERR 03 — Invalid number format»

Africnam uses the E.164 international format: + country code + national number, no spaces or leading 0. Examples: Senegal +221771234567, Côte d'Ivoire +2250701234567, DRC +243812345678, Kenya +254712345678. Never enter 00, dashes or parentheses at enrolment.

❌ 0771234567 (missing country code)
❌ 00221771234567 (00 prefix not accepted)
❌ +221 77-123-45-67 (spaces/dashes)
✅ +221771234567
Does it cost anything to dial?

USSD sessions are free on all partner networks in the 26 target countries. No airtime is debited, even if the session times out.

What if I lose signal mid-session?

The session times out after 90 s. Redial the short code — no charge is committed until a clinic scans the token. Tokens already generated remain valid 10 minutes.

Can I use it in French?

Yes. The menu detects your SIM operator's default language; you can also switch by pressing 0 at the main menu, then 1 (EN) or 2 (FR).
